CrossRef, l’agenzia che sponsorizza e rivende il DOI, ha creato un plugin (sotto licenza GNU GPL) per WordPress che “… allows blog entry authors to search CrossRef’s metadata using full or partial citations and then insert the formatted and DOI-linked citation into their blog posting along with COINs metadata.”
Visto che ultimamente si è tornati a parlare di Zotero (BTW: un grazie a Federico che me l’ha sottoposta e un piccolo assaggio di qualche tempo fa su questo blog), la fantastica piattaforma di citation management, va ricordato anche che lo stesso team che ha creato Zotero, ha rilasciato anche un plugin per gestire i metadati in WP che “… embeds a COinS tag in each blog post, making relevant metadata visible to Zotero (post title, author, date, blog title, categories, and URL).” [piccola nota a margine e fuori tema: il team di Zotero ha ricevuto da Mellon Foundation e Institute of Museum and Library Services più di un milione di dollari in tre anni...]
WordPress si conferma come la piattaforma più agile ed efficiente per supportare plugin bibliografici (questi sviluppi potrebbero anche essere letti come la conferma di una sostanziale bontà scientifica, utilità sociale e imprescindibilità culturale del codice aperto!) [BTW: se avete in mente anche voi un plugin e non sapete come venire a capo di un baco nel software potete chiedere aiuto alla platea degli sviluppatori di Refactor my Code]
Un’ultima riflessione sulla crescita del blog come strumento di pubblicazione (anche) di contenuti scientifici e accademici, la rubo al comunicato stampa di CrossRef (grassetti miei):
CrossRef is helping jumpstart the process of citing the formal literature from blogs. While there is a growing trend in scientific and academic blogging toward referring to formally published literature, until now there were few guidelines and very few tools to make that process easy.

I just stumbled upon this posting while searching for bibliographic plugins for wordpress. Did you maybe try the DOI plugin from CrossRef? I recently build a plugin that will do something similar with ISBN and thought about DOI support, too. You can find the alpha release here.

Hi Christian, what a pleasure meeting you here :) I read (and posted) about CrossRef plugin but never tried. Your plugin is very very interesting – I’m writing a book’s chapter about mashups for libraries/librarians and I think SRU interface will gain more and more usage since it offers an easy way to get data from online catalogs. Kudos to all of you and keep in touch! (thank you once again for your efforts on the book :-) )
May be you could be interested in the work of Salvatore Vassallo, alias Shaitan – he has worked a lot on bibliobar, a LibX version for my library‘ resources and on other bibliographic tools – take a look at his blog (in italian), if you like.
